Ford Ranchero |
1957 - 1979
The Ranchero was an all new vehicle for 1957. Basically, it was a pickup truck made from the Ford Fairlane 500 station wagon. The first generation of the Ranchero was made from 1957 to 1959.
1960 brought the introduction of the highly successful compact Falcon, and Ford switched the Ranchero to that platform through the 1966 model year.
1964 saw a 'freshened' body style for the Falcon and the Ranchero. The front fenders became more pointed, and the 'cove' on the side became wedge-shaped.
The Falcon was redesigned for '66, and the Ranchero changed with it. The Falcon would see this sheet metal through '69, but '66 was a one-year design for the Ranchero.
For 1967, the Ranchero was based on the intermediate Fairlane platform, and it was a one-year-only design. Of all Rancheros, this one is most pleasing to me visually. If I had money for a 'toy' this vehicle would be at the top of the list. Click on the picture for many large views of this vehicle.
For 1968 through 1976, the Ranchero was based on the new Torino platform.
The Torino car was discontinued in 1977, so the Ranchero platform had to change again. The Thunderbird would provide that platform through 1979, when the Ranchero was discontinued.
